Installing a Shower Head Arm or Extention.

Homeowners looking to renovate a bathroom shower can do something as simple as adding a shower head arm to change their entire showering experience. A shower arm extension can be easily added to one’s shower so that the height of the shower becomes instantly adjustable. What’s more, a shower head arm can help in beautifying the shower fixture and can therefore add an additional dimension of beauty to one’s bathroom shower. Shower head arms offer the homeowner a modifiable attribute like adjustable Showerheads that permits the user of the shower to adjust the shower head so that waters can fall from a greater height and can therefore expand the width of the water spray pattern

A shower arm extension can range in size, but on average, an extension pipe will be right around ten inches. Once attached, the shower arm extension allows for the user to adjust the extension up or down and according to his or her preferences. The shower arm extension pipes are specifically designed to hold a specific weight; thus the weight of the shower head becomes a consideration when ordering the shower arm extension.

The types of materials that arm extensions are crafted of vary; typical materials include brass, chrome, gold, titanium, and brushed nickel. An arm extension will often lock into position and will have to be adjusted before the user takes a shower. The shower arm extension can be easily elevated or lowered and all securing fasteners can be retightened to ensure the security of the shower head position selected. The extension will have a wing nut located along the side that can be loosened and tightened for fast shower head adjustment. For super heavy shower heads, the locking variety of shower arm extension is recommended.

Installing the shower head arm is a simplistic process. First, it will be necessary to shut off the supply of water going into one’s shower so that the extension can be installed. The homeowner can use a pair of pliers and a wrench to remove the existing shower head and attachment: holding the original shower head with the pliers, the homeowner can use the wrench to turn the shower head nut in a counterclockwise direction in order to loosen up the nut connecting the shower head to the shower arm.

Once the old shower head and fixtures are removed, the new extension can be installed. It is recommended that the homeowner wrap the pliers’ tips and the working end of the wrench with some Teflon tape or masking tape so that the pliers and wrench do not wind up scratching up the surface of the extension arm. The new arm can be installed with relative ease, and a new Speakman Anystream Showerhead installation can complete the project. Provided that the old fixture comes out easily, the installation should not take more than a fifteen to thirty minutes time. In the event that the homeowner runs into complications removing the old fixtures, using a lubricant can help in loosening up over-tightened or seized components.
