What do I Need when Doing Tub Reglazing? popular

Having an old and worn bathtub in your bathroom can make the entire room look as if it were not quite as clean as it could be. Even though the tub may be scrubbed regularly, a finish that is in need of repair is never going to quite look as good as what it should. There may be times whenever tub reglazing is needed in order to bring the shine back to this part of the bathroom, and in most cases the tub will look brand-new again.

Most people are not really sure what all goes into a fiberglass tub glazing project, and they may even have considered that it would be possible for them to do it themselves. After all, there are plenty of (do-it-yourself) bathtub refinishing kits that are available, both at the local hardware store and on the Internet. Bathtub reglazing, however, requires years of experience in order to get a professional look, Although it certainly is possible for you to bring a new look to the bathroom by doing it yourself, you will be much happier with the job that a professional does.

The first thing that is going to take place whenever your bathtub reglazing project begins is that the entire area is going to be prepared. Any caulking that is around the edge of the tub is going to be completely removed with razor blades and the entire inside of the tub, as well as the outside of the tub in some cases is going to be thoroughly washed with a specialty acid wash. This will help to remove any of the grime or dirt that may have worked its way down into the finish.

The next part of the project is going to be repairing any damage that may have taken place to the tub itself. The type of repair that is going to occur will depend on the type of tub that you have. For example, fiberglass can be repaired with fiberglass kits while a cast-iron tub will need to be filled in with some kind of body epoxy. I'll recommend getting a professional craftsman in for any Japanese tub restoration. Any repair that takes place will be sanded smooth, as any imperfections that are left over will be magnified after the glazing takes place.

Once the repair project is completed, the tub will be washed out once again with a different type of acid wash that will pit the surface and prepare it so that the new paint will adhere to it properly. A primer coat will be applied with a spray gun and allowed to dry, and some sanding may take place, depending on whether it is a water-based primer or one that is acetone-based.

The final part of the tub reglazing project is what is going to make the difference that you will see with your eye. A mixture of high gloss paint and polyurethane will be sprayed onto the tub with a professional sprayer, similar to one that is used when painting a car. This is what will provide you with that shine that you are looking for and the finished project will look brand-new, just as if it become off the showroom floor.
